Time is Slipping Away

On Wednesday, February 17, Rush Limbaugh, passed away. He was 70 years old and died from a year-long battle with lung cancer. I've been listening to Rush since 2015 - I didn't listen everyday, he would become repetitive and had too many commercials. Half his show seemed like he was selling something - but he had a keen observation of American culture and politics - he's had great influence in my political beliefs. Limbaugh has shaped conservative thinking more than any other media personality.

I even bought our children a Rush Revere book to teach American history.

I went back and listened to his final show he broadcasted before he was too ill. It was Tuesday, February 2, 2021. He's been on the radio for over 30 years and probably didn't think February 2 would be his last show. One of the final statements he made before signing off, "Time is slipping away."

Time is slipping away - how you spend your time influences how close you'll be with Christ and your service to God. How sad to see talented, God-gifted believers who squander their time.

From my personal experience, here are the five time-squandering things I have to guard against:

1). TV (especially news)
2). Movies
3). Social Media
4). Sports
5). Conversations about Nothing

If you don't manage your time, someone or something will manage it for you.

Rush was one of a kind & will be remembered as a stalwart conservative and effective communicator. He was generous, well prepared & persuasive. It was jolting when I heard that he had died, so much so, I locked myself out of my vehicle by mistake. I want to emulate his success & espouse my views unapologetically as he did. His powerful voice reminded us daily that freedom is but a generation away from extinction; and, that sacrifices made to preserve it are worthy and just. Rush’s unwillingness to accept defeat or allow liberalism to form the premise on which conservative ideas are formed were the most endearing and enduring aspects of his legacy. He challenged liberalism and taught a new generation of young people that liberalism is antithetical to conservative principles and like a disease, will erode free-market capitalism, scientific achievement & economic prosperity. It is with great sadness I acknowledge his amazing influence as a giant whose talent will be difficult to replace. I will miss him more than I can possibly convey with words. Rest In Peace Rush and may Almighty God welcome you home.

Rush, particularly in his last days, was an unapologetic Christian. He proudly said that Jesus was his Lord and Savior. Like you, I have listened to Rush over the years--more in years past than recently when radio has, to many, become a medium of the past. I have even read some of his books. I used to listen to Rush more when I was traveling in my job. Not that I am retired, travel associated with my job is a thing of the past.

I also (usually) appreciated Rush's "take" on things. He was pro-America and he was anti-Communist and anti-socialism. The way society is going these days, and with the changes promulgated by the Biden administration, I wonder if the "glory days" of the past will return.
